gnt-cluster1 upgraded to lenny

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The mammoth task of upgrading the Ganeti cluster gnt-cluster1 to Debian Lenny is complete. The last node, Oberon, was removed and reinstalled today. Thanks to all for their co-operation and patience during the outages and especially to Kieren and the rest of the BOS team for helping with performance testing.

I have rearranged the VM instances on the cluster so that we are making optimal use of better performing hardware where it is needed. As we are now also on a newer version of Ganeti it will now be possible to make use of the htools package for automatic balancing of instances based on resource usage and it’s iallocator plugin for automatic allocation of nodes for new instances creation based on VM resource requirements. No more head scratching trying to work out where to find space to create new VMs!
